The book "The orchids of Viet Nam" systematically introduces to you, genera and species of orchids, widely known for having beautiful florescent patterns and nice fragrance of Vietnamese forest. Most of the species referred to in this book have been collected and cultured into ornemental plants used for interior decoration.
Orchid is one of the very large plant families in the world ( 750 genera and 20000 - 25000 species : (A. L. Takhtajan, 1987) and in Viet Nam (approximately 125 genera and 800 species). It is of high value scientifically (species endemic in Viet Nam) culturally and economically species offering beutiful blossoming, fragrance to be used for hybridization and production of export oriented saplings.
Besides the first part dealing with "some features of family Orchidaceae morphology and classification" and the last part with "generalized culturation" the book focuces the presentation on an alphabetical order of all orchid genera and species existing in Viet Nam, at the some time touching on some species of orchid imported from abroad that the Vietnamese people are widely patting in cultural practice. Those imported orchids are being crossbred into various hybrids with original florescent patterns.
Introduction will be successively made as regards orchids in Viet Nam, of the number of species belonging that genus (worldwise as well as in Viet Nam) of their basic morphological traits for differentiation and of their distribution in Viet Nam. For each species of orchid, there will be, aparts its Vietnamese name and scientific one, a summary description of its specific features related to shape, color, blossom, fragrance, plant growth, habitat and distribution. If orchid may be grown as ornemental plants, an outline should be devoted to garden landscape and interior decoration.
